Enable NSW Wig Funding — What It Covers and How to Apply

If you live in New South Wales and are experiencing hair loss due to a medical condition, you may be eligible for funding toward a wig through Enable NSW. We work with clients across NSW to help them understand this program and navigate the application process from start to finish.

What Is Enable NSW?

Enable NSW is a NSW Government program that provides equipment and assistive technology to eligible people with disability, long-term illness, or other qualifying conditions. Wigs are one of the items covered under their funding criteria, specifically for people experiencing significant or permanent hair loss as a result of a medical condition.

How Much Funding Is Available?

The funding amount depends on your eligibility band and the type of wig:

• Human hair wig — funded once every 3 years

• Synthetic wig — funded for eligible consumers, with a maximum of 2 wigs per 12-month period

Funding amounts and eligibility bands are set by Enable NSW and can change, so we always recommend confirming the current funding levels directly with Enable NSW or your prescriber at the time of application, as the maximum contribution will not necessarily cover the full cost of a premium handcrafted wig — any difference between the funded amount and your wig’s price is payable directly to us.

Who Is Eligible?

Eligibility is generally based on permanent or significant hair loss resulting from a diagnosed medical condition, such as alopecia, chemotherapy, or another qualifying illness. A prescriber — generally your GP, dermatologist, or oncologist — must support your application with the required medical evidence.

How to Apply

1. See your prescriber. Your GP, dermatologist, or specialist needs to complete the required Enable NSW Wig Request Form and provide supporting medical evidence.

2. Get a quote from us. We will provide a formal quote for your chosen wig, which is required as part of the application.

3. Submit the application. Your prescriber submits the completed application, request form, and quote to Enable NSW.

4. Wait for assessment. Processing times can vary — applications often take a number of weeks to be assessed, so it’s worth applying as early as possible.

5. Receive approval. Once approved, Enable NSW will issue an order directly to us, and we will be in touch to finalise your wig.
