Heat, humidity, the beach and the gym: how to wear your wig through an Australian summer and keep it looking its best.
Living on the Gold Coast, we know a thing or two about wearing wigs in the heat. Summer brings the beach, the pool, the gym and plenty of humidity, and it's natural to wonder how your wig will cope. Here's our practical guide.
You can, but chlorine and salt water are drying, so it's worth taking a few precautions:
We don't recommend it. Friction against your pillow causes tangling, wears the hair faster and puts stress on the lace. It's also nicer for your scalp to breathe overnight. Pop your wig on a stand when you go to bed. If you do need to sleep in it occasionally, plait the hair loosely and use a silk or satin pillowcase and wear a bonnet.
Absolutely. Plenty of our clients walk, run, do pilates and go to the gym in their wigs. A wig grip keeps everything in place, and tying the hair back stops it tangling. Because sweat builds up quickly, you may need to wash your wig more often during summer. Our guides on washing a human hair wig and washing a synthetic wig walk you through it.
Humidity can make human hair frizz, just like your own. A light leave-in conditioner or serum on the mid-lengths and ends helps.
