What is the difference between a lace front wig and a full lace wig?

At Lace front wigs we are constantly asked what the difference is between a lace front wig and a full lace wig. From the Sydney to Perth girls across the country have been coming to us with this question. To help girls now and in to the future we thought we would finally clear it up. Below we outline the difference between the two styles and what their main benefits and disadvantages are.

Whether you’re new to the world of wigs or already a veteran, understanding the terminology used can be confusing. It’s important to know so that you purchase the right wig for you, and ultimately have the right look.

LACE FRONT

The main difference between a full lace wig and a lace front wig is the base. The difference is in the name, lace front wigs contain lace in the front of the wig. A lace front wig is attached to the front edges of your head, along your hairline where there is often a lace panel. This wig has a sheer lace strictly in the front edges of the unit that are cut off just prior to be installed on your head. The rest of the wig is made with a stronger and thicker material and the hair strands are attached in wefts to this material. The thicker material is still comfortable and fits easily to the head. Lace front wigs provide a natural looking hairline and give a good amount of volume while remaining extremely affordable.

FULL LACE

Full lace wigs have a base that is entirely made of lace. Unlike the lace front wig the back portions of the wig are also made from lace. The thicker material that is used in lace fronts wigs is not used at all in full lace wigs. This means full lace wigs are a bit more versatile than a lace front wig, because they can be worn in different hair styles. Full lace wigs also demand a higher price tag as they take longer to be made and are more intricately put together. A full lace wig covers the entire head and must be installed slightly different than a lace front wig that is only securely attached at the front edges of your head.

Both wigs carry both benefits and disadvantages. Lace front wigs are better for beginners as they are easier to apply and generally require less styling. They are also significantly cheaper and can have a larger volume due to how the hair is attached. Full lace wigs can be more versatile, they can be styled into up-dos and ponytails unlike lace front wigs, but require more time and effort to apply. They are also more costly for the same amount of hair.

THE VERDICT

Depending on your needs both types of wigs have there uses. We suggest for beginners, or those who want to easily change their style with multiple wigs, that you go for lace front wigs. It is much cheaper to buy multiple lace front wigs, compared to full lace wigs. This allows you to have an assortment of different wigs to completely revamp your style for any special occasion. If you want one wig that you will constantly wear, and to be able to change style with the same wig, then you should look towards a full lace wig.

The most important thing when buying any wig is to buy quality. It may be hard to pass up bargain wigs but you will regret it in the long run.
